Offering whole peanuts in your yard can be a fun and rewarding effort. The most common visitors will be Blue Jays & Red-Bellied Woodpeckers; but you could potentially see Downy Woodpeckers, Northern Cardinals, Common Grackles and the White-Breasted Nuthatch. The choices for feeder placement are varied. It can be hung from a shepherd’s hook, from a hanger off a fence or deck railing or from a tree using a branch hook. Please remember to clean your feeder periodically as needed, and only use whole, fresh, in-the-shell peanuts.

The feeder is easy to fill. Simply lift the lid, or roof, up through the coated cables and allow it to rest at the side. Next, pour in your desired amount of whole, in-the-shell peanuts. Drop them loosely into the feeder. Do not pack them down as this might make them more difficult for the birds to pick out. It might be prudent to fill sparingly at first until you see how fast the birds will eat them. Peanuts, just like other bird seed, can go bad if left out in the elements for long periods of time; especially in a wet/damp environment.

Please note: Do not use “fit for human consumption” peanuts that you would buy for yourself in a grocery store. Seasoned, salted, smoked or candy-coated peanuts are not suitable for your birds.

Also please note: Squirrels love peanuts! Don’t be surprised if you see a furry visitor at your feeder from time to time!
