The JCs Wildlife Barred Owl Nesting Box is a great way to invite Barred Owls to your home. The 7-inch entrance hole of the JCs Wildlife Barred Owl Box allows for easy access in and out for Barred Owls. Additionally, this Barred Owl Box is designed as one room, which allows the owls to easily nest inside. This owl nesting box is also designed with an overhanging roof that reaches 2 inches over the front of the box, which allows additional protection from the elements for your owls.

Special "grip" grooves on the outer front section of the box underneath the entrance hole help the adult owl gain access to the box. No perches exist outside of the box as they could provide convenient perches for predators or for young owlets, thus exposing them to predators.

A door on the side of the box allows for easy access to the interior - making clean out a simple and quick task. All you would need is to open the door labeled Clean Out and easily replace the wood shavings inside. This side door also provides easy access to mount a wildlife camera in the box, so you can enjoy viewing your own young owlets during their growth process.

**Dimensions of this box are 24" H x 15.5" W x 15.25" D including the 2.5" overhanging roof) **

Nesting Material: Although Barred Owls can and will find their own nesting materials, one bag of pine shavings is included with your Barred Owl Nesting Box. Adding 3-4" of shavings to the floor of the box when mounting will make the box more appealing to the Barred Owl. If you need to replace the nesting material, pine shavings are the safest option.

This nesting box is made with eco friendly recycled poly lumber, which stands strong for seasons to come. Guaranteed never to crack, split, or fade in the elements, your poly barred owl box will love their long lasting home!

Where Should I Put My Box? Barred Owls generally prefer mixed forests of large trees, often near water sources where there will be diversity in food sources. The Barred Owl generally eats many different types of small animals, including squirrels, chipmunks, mice, voles, rabbits, and small birds (up to the size of a grouse) along with amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates. Barred Owls are also territorial, so multiple boxes should be at least 1 mile apart as well as away from human areas like homes in order to avoid conflict.
